Clive Owen Addresses His Villain Role in Daisy Ridley's New Action Film
The upcoming action thriller Cleaner is set to deliver high-stakes action and suspense, with Children of Men's Clive Owen taking on the role of a ruthless villain.
Starring the Star Wars sequel trilogy's Daisy Ridley in the lead, the film follows a former soldier-turned-window cleaner who gets caught in a deadly hostage situation. Directed by Casino's Royale's Martin Campbell, Cleaner is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 21, 2025, with Quiver Distribution handling its release. Cleaner blends action and suspense as Ridley’s character is thrust into a life-or-death mission with no backup and nowhere to run. Cleaner is produced by Cindy Cowan, known for Red Lights starring Oppenheimer's Cillian Murphy, and the upcoming comedy Pickleheads, featuring What We Do in the Shadows actor Harvey Guillén.
In a newly released clip, Owen discusses his role in Cleaner, offering insight into what makes his character such a formidable antagonist. He portrays a radical activist who takes an energy company’s annual gala hostage, believing his actions are justified by a greater cause. Owen describes his character as the leader of an eco-group, making him a villain who sees himself as the hero of his own story. His character orchestrates a hostage takeover in a building, a setup that mirrors the iconic action classic Die Hard. Watch the clip below.
