Daisy Ridley Reveals Her New Action Flick Is a 'Love Letter' to 'Die Hard'

Plus, she dishes on her favorite James Bond moment of all time.

Daisy Ridley has traded her lightsaber for her fists and whatever gun she can get her hands on in the new action film Cleaner. Ridley plays an ex-army woman named Joey Locke, who, down on her luck, finds herself as a window cleaner in the center of London. She swears a lot, drives a motorcycle, and does her best to care for her autistic brother, Michael (Matthew Tuck). But it all goes to hell when the building she's cleaning suddenly gets taken over by eco-terrorists.

Although Clive Owen plays the leader of this group, there are several twists and turns early in the movie, which we won't spoil here. But, because this film is directed by two-time James Bond director Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) there's a certain classic action set-up that Ridley has stepped into. We knew she could kick ass as Rey in Star Wars, but the grittiness of Cleaner presents a whole new side to Ridley's abilities. In this impressive, tight thriller, Ridley manages to convince us that Joey is terrified, relatable, and also clearly a cinematic cousin of John McClane (Bruce Willis) from Die Hard.
