Dolph Lundgren’s Dad Inspired His Performance In ‘Wanted Man’
Dolph Lundgren didn't have to look far for inspiration when playing the lead in his latest movie, Wanted Man. He plays Travis Johansen, whose worldview is "problematic," making the character something many actors might shy away from.
"You're right," he confirmed. "I felt like you have to be provocative, to some degree, to make people care and take notice of any topic. It would be great if the world was only full of kind, understanding, compassionate people. What an incredible world that would be, but it isn't like that. Playing somebody who is not such a likable guy, has issues, is bitter and angry reminded me of my father."
"He was like that, and I used some of that when I played this character but made the guy turn the corner at the end. My dad got a bit more mellow as he got older, but I don't think he ever turned the corner. A lot of people have a lot of issues, and this guy certainly does. Part of it, in the case of this character, is his friendships because you are who you surround yourself with. If you surround yourself with the wrong people, then you're going to be like them."
